The Last Wind-Up

Hamiton - Dillon Mont. (pw518)

Not often would I pass up a private labeled Hamilton made for a retailer in Montana. This one was a tough one for me to pass up. A Dillon Montana jeweler, Huber Bros., is not one that I have seen before. I've seen Bozeman, Helena, Missoula and Livingston, but non from Dillon.

So, what we have here is an 18 size, 17 jewel Hamilton. It is stem wind and lever set. The serial number puts it at about 1905 which is just 6 years after Montana gained statehood.

I looked up the jeweler (Huber Bros) and they are listed (scantily).

The movement is in great shape and is running like a top. Fitted with a new mainspring during the complete overhaul, it is sure to have another 100 years of service.

The dial does show a couple of hairlines and a chip out of the edge at the 8:00 position. It has been repaired, but is evident.

The screw back and bezel case is not original, but offers a nice worn locomotive on the back and an original glass crystal on the front.

A nice piece of Montana history and Hamilton history.
