Elgin 18 Size Hunter (pw517)

Silver hunter cased watches are getting tough to find and this is a nice simple example with an 18 size 7 jewel Elgin movement.

The case is in respectable condition.... the engine turning is very nice and still fairly consistent across the entire case. The cover opens a good deal beyond the 90 degree position, but the hinge is still strong. The one feature that I appreciate is the gold winding crown and bow... it's a nice compliment to the silver case.

Just overhauled and fitted with a new mainspring, the watch is running well and keeping good time.

The new old stock grass crystal has a very slight flake chip at the 11:00 mark. Tough to see.

There are a couple of minor hairlines in the dial, but nothing terrible. The hour and minute hands do not match, but fit well.

All in all, a decent Elgin in a very respectable case showing light to medium wear.
