The Last Wind-Up

English Verge Fusee Hunter (pw582)

The case on this watch is what intrigued me to bring it back into working condition. Albeit a verge fusee, it runs, but accuracy, as with mist verge escapement watches, is somewhat negligible. Needless to say, it will take a full wind and will run down to maintain an accuracy of about 10 minutes in a day.... not bad for a watch that is over 200+ year old.

Please look at this case... it is simply wonderful. The weight of it is quite substantial and the engine turning is still very crisp. I particularly love the technique of repeating the engraving on the pendant and the bow... not something often seen on a verge watch such as this.

The maker, Robert Stroud, is a listed maker, having watches in the New York University collection and was in business from about 1775 - 1822.

The dial is lovely ivory colored and has no faults.

A wonderful early and recognized maker in a simply stunningly handsome hunter case that has seen only the lightest of wear.
